Just as an expensive camera does not make a photographer, expensive running shoes do not make a runner.
It takes dedication, horrible times, prying yourself out of bed at 6 am, pushing through when your legs are sore. For me it takes some good rap music, a hyper yellow lab who serves as an incredible trainer, and a grandma who is willing to watch a groggy infant. Oh, and a husband who is telling your to get your skinny butt in shape.
I don’t dare call myself a runner. I will not be the first to complete this race- but I know I will not be the last.

SO HOW DID IT GO????
Well, let me start by saying I did not reach my goal time. At first I was kind of sad, but this was my first race and I definitely learned from it. I am kind of happy I did not reach my goal because now I am motivated to run even more! I am going to tell you my goal, and I am sure many of you will have a good chuckle at it, but I am hoping it can be a motivator for my fellow chocolate eating couch potato friends out there.
I was the kid who walked the mile in high school. It took me 23 minutes and I am pretty sure my gym teacher wanted to kill me. I HATED running. Until my friend, Tammy showed me the Color Run. What a great way to get started! So I set to the streets with my trusty labrador and about died attempting to run a mile.
A few days later I saw myself improving. 3 miles was a lofty goal at the time, but I was determined to at least run most of it (and I did). I didn’t get to run at all this week because I was too busy LOVING WPPI2012, but I was still able to come in at least somewhat close to my goal.
So what was my goal? It was to come in under 30 minutes. Last time I ran I finished in 38 (you can totally laugh). This time, I finished in 35. I am still kind of bummed I didn’t make the time I wanted but I know I would have felt I accomplished something and I would likely not have a morning run planned for tomorrow as I do now. So here’s to not making your goals, but still reaching for them!! Congratulations to everyone who pushed themselves today!
The girls before the race. So squeaky clean…

35 minutes later…

Reunited at the color party!
